I am Douglas Olivares, MD, a physician, aviator, and visual storyteller whose work is shaped by a lifelong pursuit of precision, exploration, and perspective.

Trained in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease, I approach both science and art with the same disciplined attention to detail. Beyond medicine, my life has been guided by two enduring passions: flight and photography. As a licensed Civil Aviation Private Pilot since 1980, aviation has instilled in me a unique way of seeing the world—one defined by altitude, scale, and the quiet geometry of landscapes viewed from above.

 

Since 2013, I have worked as a professional contributing photographer and videographer with iStockphoto, Adobe Stock and Shutterstock creating imagery for global editorial and commercial platforms. My photographic vision is deeply rooted in remote and elemental environments, where light, terrain, and atmosphere converge to tell stories beyond words.

My expeditions to the Gran Sabana and the Venezuelan Amazon have taken me to some of South America's most extraordinary and isolated locations, including the Autana, Roraima, and Auyantepuy, Angel Falls (Salto Ángel), and the Cueva del Fantasma in Purpuken on Aprada Tepuy. These journeys are not merely documentary in nature, but acts of immersion—I seek to capture the spirit, scale, and silence of ancient landscapes.

 

As a devoted Sony photographer, I rely exclusively on Sony equipment, trusting its optical excellence and resilience in demanding environments where precision and reliability are essential.
